What is Cost Engineering?

Cost engineering is the discipline of determining and controlling product cost through manufacturing knowledge. It links design decisions, process routes and supplier structures to a quantified cost model that can be discussed with engineering and procurement on equal terms.

From Estimated Cost to True Cost

A calculated model is a hypothesis. We validate assumptions against real production environments — observed cycle times, machine utilisation, scrap and line balancing — and correct the model where reality differs from the calculation.

Supplier Cost Transparency

Quotations are broken down into their cost elements so that procurement and engineering can see which assumptions stand behind a price, and which do not hold against the manufacturing reality.

Manufacturing Process & Cycle Time Analysis

Machine economics, cycle time, setup, OEE, material consumption and line balancing are assessed on site. This is where cost models gain or lose credibility.

Identified opportunities are quantified per part and per process — material, process route, tooling, assembly or supply structure — and tracked separately from implemented savings.
